Michelle LaFlure, Founding Principal

Michelle has been passionately dedicated to the North Central Houston community for the past 18 years. She served as the YES Prep North Central principal from 2014 to 2019 and led the Trailblazer family in blazing trails of academic excellence.

Prior to becoming a principal, Michelle was a Director of Academics in which she coached and developed teachers, planned professional development for 6th - 12th grade, and led the North Central Instructional Leadership Team.

Michelle’s passion for teaching started in 2000 when she taught 3rd grade in Chicago, Illinois. Since then she has taught English, Spanish, and history in 5th - 8th grade. In addition to being bilingual, Michelle has a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Calvin University, a Master’s in Education from the University of St Thomas, and was a 2001 Teach for America Corps Member.

As a first-generation college graduate, Michelle is passionate about increasing opportunities for all students and ensuring every student has an excellent pre-kindergarten through 12th-grade education.
