Hi families!

I can't believe it has been 12 days of school already! Our staff has been working so hard to ensure every student has transitioned smoothly into the school year, and we are thankful for the opportunity to partner with you in your child's education.

As some of you may know, I am the proud mama to a 3-year-old daughter. She is a handful, but one thing that always brings us together is reading. The days get mashed together and my to-do list sometimes feels like a mile long, but finding time to read with her brings so much peace and joy.

I recently read an article that discusses the impacts of adults reading to the children in their lives and the benefits stretched further than I imagined. Did you know that children whose parents read to them daily have been exposed to at least 290,000 more words by the time they enter kindergarten than kids who aren’t read to regularly? And the sensory experience of sitting with you and hearing your voice also engages your child's brain in a way that makes learning easier for them.

Some days, I admit, I am ready for bedtime and for a few minutes to myself, but taking that time to connect with my child without distractions does wonders for our relationship and helps me feel grounded and connected with her.

I hope you have an opportunity to connect with your student(s) and have some fun together over this long weekend, and we look forward to seeing them back on Tuesday.

Love,

Mrs. Jaime Ybarra

Assistant Principal

Hi SPARKS Families!

Welcome back! Our number one goal is to ensure that ALL Yes Prep Sparks are College Ready! To make that dream a reality, we are hitting the ground running with MAP testing. Please see the schedule below to see what days/times your student(s) will be testing. A positive mindset and strong preparation is the number one way we can support our students. Here are some ways you can ensure that your Sparks are set up for success on their MAP test:

  • Get them to school on time! All students should be in their classrooms by 7:30am.
  • Ensure they get a good night’s sleep the night before! Testing can sometimes feel long, so when a student is tired, they tend to lose focus quickly.
  • Make sure they have everything they need! Students should have a charged laptop, wired headphones, and a jacket for test days.
  • Encourage your student! Speaking to them about their test really shows them how much we all work together to help them grow! Make a little sign to hang on their mirror, serve their favorite healthy breakfast, or play their favorite song on the way to school to help them get pumped up for testing.

The belief that they can achieve greatness starts with you! Please do not hesitate to reach out to your child/s teacher or Mrs. Ybarra if you have any questions.
