Dress Code

YES Prep North Central Elementary Dress Code & Uniform Expectations 2026 – 2027 

Will uniforms be required? 

Students must follow the specific daily expectations for uniforms at their campus as outlined below. Please note that there may be some exceptions to these dress code expectations to accommodate cultural celebrations and traditions. Exceptions to uniform expectations will be communicated to students and families in advance.  

See more about the YES Prep Dress Code Philosophy and Policy in the YES Prep Student Handbook. The following table breaks down how the campus expects students to follow the dress code policy. As a reminder, a student’s most outer visible layer of top must be YES Prep branded.

Dress Code Expectations

Student ID Badges

Students must: 

  • Wear their ID badge on a lanyard around their neck 

  • Keep the ID visible at all times 

  • Ensure the student photo is not covered
Shirts

Students may wear: 

  • YES Prep North Central Polo Shirts 

  • YES Prep or North Central Spirit Shirts 

  • College T-Shirts on Fridays only 

Students are not required to tuck in their shirts. 
Outerwear

Students may only wear YES Prep-branded outerwear, including: 

  • YES Prep sweatshirts and jackets 

  • Campus athletic department outerwear 

  • Campus-issued grade-level or spirit sweatshirts 

  • Students may wear college branded sweaters on Fridays only 

Important: If a student wears an outer layer, they must have a YES Prep shirt underneath.
Bottoms

Students may wear: 

  • Khakis (any color) 

  • Jeans (any color) 

  • Joggers (any color) 

  • Shorts or skirts must be at the knee 

Students may not wear: 

  • Leggings or jeggings 

  • Pajama pants 

  • Sagging or bottoms worn below the waist 
Shoes

For student safety, all shoes must: 

  • Be closed-toe 

  • Have a back (no slides, Crocs, sandals, Birkenstocks, or Uggs) 

  • Have hard soles (no slippers) 

Athletic shoes are strongly recommended. 
PE Expectations

Students may wear their own athletic clothing for PE. 

PE clothing must: 

  • Be school appropriate 

  • Shorts must be at the knee 

  • Meet free dress guidelines 

  • Include athletic shoes 

Students may not wear: 

  • Crop tops 

  • Spaghetti straps 

  • Leggings 

  • Crocs 

Students must change out of PE clothing before leaving the gym.
Free Dress

Free Dress Days will be announced in advance. 

All clothing must: 

  • Be school appropriate 

  • Not contain references to drugs, alcohol, tobacco, gangs, violence, or offensive language/images 

  • Not include tank tops, spaghetti straps, halter tops, tube tops, sheer tops, or strapless tops 

  • Not expose the midriff 

All footwear and bottoms must still follow regular school safety expectations.
Backpacks & Accessories

Students may: 

  • Use only clear or mesh backpacks 

  • For athletes: duffle bags must be mesh or clear 

  • Wear religious head coverings 

  • Have visible piercings, tattoos, and hairstyles/colors that are school appropriate 

Students may not: 

  • Wear hats, hoods, or sunglasses inside the building 

  • Wear spiked accessories (bracelets, belts, collars, etc.) 
 

YES Prep’s updated dress code policy 

YES Prep’s dress code policy is centered around values of equity and school pride. The YES Prep dress code allows for building individuality and allows for community building through campus-specific attire. The dress code is a daily expectation and should meet district and campus guidelines. Like all YES Prep policies, if a student’s dress or accessory choice poses a concern for student physical or emotional safety, a campus administrator has the discretion to disallow the dress item. For more insight into YES Prep’s dress code policy, click here.
